The RAD set up is the Cool set up !
Definitely worth it based on what I’m seeing here! As a solo op this would’ve helped me a lot at a recent conference shoot - but I have a soft spot for my Tokina primes. I can definitely see this in the future though. Any chance you’ll test out the new laowa anamorphic zooms? Excellent video as always 😎
Love this. Exactly what I needed! 🔥🎥😎
Yeah buddy! How are things going?
Yo! Things are going well. Enjoying my kids these last few months! Delivered our third right before the holidays so getting used to the sleepless nights again, haha. Slowly churning out YT content here and there, and ramping back up into the video space. Slowly but surely! Hope you doing well😎@@BradWatanabe

He such a rad dude! Always trying to help the community. Mahalo 🙏🏼
Awesome review man. Subscribed. Can you remove the bag and put some dividers in that area? Does it come with enough dividers to do that?
I've seen a lot of other vids on this backpack and everyone says that it has dividers for days. Can't wait to purchase it.
@@denisnicholson2528 got mine last week. It's gonna sit till June until I travel with it. But so far I like it.
Do you typically take a drone when you travel? Or mostly camera kit?
Lool, this one looks like sh1t
Love this, change is super hard and scary, but is necessary. Life is change. I’ve been busier than ever, helping my family. It’s so weird, the money part really had me scared, and I’m still getting it figured out…but I think God just makes a path for you if you follow what he’s calling you to do. Anyways, I saw how your key motivation in life began to change when Eli came. I remember telling Josh, “Yeah, 4 years ago, Brad never ever ever would take a day off or leave early.” But I could see the work-life balance scale start tipping more towards life than work. I remember our first trip and I was telling you how much I wish I was at home, and you thought it was just me being homesick…but when you have a young kid at home, especially with the first kid, every hour or day you’re away from them feels like you’re missing them growing up. I’m really happy knowing that you’re really making the effort to create those systems, and training the right people, so you can make that time for you and your family…that’s something that not all parents do, like with my parents who mostly choose work. I actually used to really wonder if you’d be one of those kind of absent, work always comes first kinds of dad. But you actually really made a lot of changes, hard changes that I’ve seen you struggle through, in order to make that time and I’m really proud of you for that. Just wanted to say. Anyways, so many good memories and lessons, in the past and in the future as well! I’ll see ya at the next shoot!
Lot's of lifelong memories my friend! Stoked you've been a part of our journey and excited to see what you do next! Mahalo!!!
Mahalo Mana 🤙🏽 Food stuff B, I will say I am teh a-hole in the bunch because I will always say "Stress" is self inflicted. After almost dying from a stroke I don't stress the small stuff that people who've never lost freak out over. I don't set undue expectations. I don't place my personal self value in the minds of others. I don't chase rewards for satisfaction and approval. I know my purpose. This makes life hella smooth.
Always appreciate your insights brother. I definitely need to be conscious of my true north so I don’t get lost in the journey. Mahalo!
Yeah buddy! First one done! 🤓👏🏻
Mahalo! Just gotta keep ‘em flowing 🙏🏼

@@BradWatanabe Nope this is my junkmail account, this is one of my many accounts. @dayinthelifehawaii @hawaiiweddingphotographer @dashcamerahawaii
Wow this is crazy, the irony of how different cultures intertwined and meet up in different facets, virtually or in person. I just lost my mom July and it has been really difficult. Just like yourself doc, I was able to at least show my mom what I might know of certain topics like accessibility for example. It is really special to me and a blessing, that at least my mom understood where my beginnings were. She was proud of me being on air with oh, and in that same facet, it was really what you said their, brought everything into focus like a camera lens. I feel, my moments for my journey which has just barely started, even if it's going to be in the space of creation or something completely different. The fact of the journey in itself. With our family and also the loss of our family. It's almost like I felt my mom is with me at times like that too, and just I think the irony here becomes that it's very similar to all, our parents want militant to us, but they wanted us to work hard at our craft and to work hard to serve others as well. Since, giving selfless help to others to make them a better person or Creator or whatever you want to fill in the blank. It just makes this conversation that much more interesting and it really hit home for me. Thank you so much for always allowing the audience ⁰ to connect with you as human beans and to always inspire! Cheers!
So stoked to hear that this resonated with you Hershi. Talks about family always have a much more universal connection to people than we often realize. Thank you for sharing. More conversations coming soon.
That was a pleasure, thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the review! What backpack are you using? :D It looks roomy!
sorry for the late response, but this was the original Nomatic Peter McKinnon backpack! Stoked you enjoyed the review. Mahalo!
Can you use a speedbooster to adapter this lens?
Nope. We've tried using rear NDs with this set, and they won't work. the rear portion of the lens protrudes too much. My only gripe about these lenses.
@@BradWatanabe That's too bad. DZO Catta doesn't have this issue but I don't like its range.
@@BradWatanabe really? The Rangers that I saw at a demo last year could fit the canon 0.71x speedbooster, as well as the Meike rear VND - these was with the Ranger’s EF mount. Looks like your rear ND is Revolva/PL? So perhaps the PL mount protrudes?
incredible job. goodbye,
Thank you 🙏🏼
What lens do you supplement these out with when you need something wider that still matches up visually?
We're able to do pretty well matching these with some of our Sigma Art glass. Sigma is going to be a little more contrasty, but that's pretty resolvable in post. Mahalo!
Great review as always!
Thanks so much brother! You're an inspiration.
Nice! I want to get my hands on some cinema lenses

Hey man, I absolutely love the Mic/side + top handle configuration. What mount have you used to support your mic like this?
It's a combination of things, but it's based on a top handle from SmallRig which has a horizontal 15mm rod mount built in. I have a short 15mm that connects to another piece by smallrig that is a 15mm connector to shotgun mic holder. Keeps everything nice and tight. I'll add links to the description above.
@@BradWatanabe nice rig! would you mind sharing which cable are you using for the shotgun mic? Thanks!!
@@KleberEleven it's a custom cable by Mutiny (5-pin to mini) but it doesn't look like it's on their page anymore: mutiny.store/ Recently, I've picked up this cable from Amazon which seems to work pretty well: a.co/d/9t70t4l Let me know if one of them works out
@@BradWatanabe thanks man, I'll check them out!
Taimane’s ukulele performing skills reached a master class
Absolutely agree. Brilliant musician and artist.
Camera is not cheap with the accessories but it looks like it's getting the job done. What software do you use for your color grade?
We pretty much stay in Premiere throughout our workflow. If we need something with more control, we'll drop into Davinci. How's about yourself?
@@BradWatanabe FCPX for everything, I'm not ready to make the switch over to Davinci since I know fcpx like the back of my hand
Hi Brad. Thanks for adding this info. I have a win about the chip. Does the Tokina lens being third party affect its ability to communicate with the camera? Or is it 100% compatible? Thank you
I didn’t notice any compatibility issues at all with it. Solid glass for sure.
my dream man! amazing setup
Appreciate it. Such a fun and compact cinema kit
Wow bra nice, i just got a used w, gotta learn to shoot now🤙, did you upgrade firmware to 6k?
I actually ended up doing the upgrade to Dragon X, but recently sold the kit when I upgraded systems to V-Raptor. What kind of stuff do you plan to shoot with it?
@@BradWatanabe howzit, any kind🤙. I ended purchasing the helium. Just waiting for it to come in

She’s an amazingly talented artist.
Good stuff!
Mahalo!
What Mic is on the komodo and how is it rigged? also small side handle on the left? Such an epic rig!!!
It’s a Rose VideoMic NTG. Solid as a scratch / ambient shotgun. The little left side rib is a huge (tiny) help 😀
Wich micro shotgun did you use? And with Wich rig?
I don’t really have a full rig, but accessories are a mix of smallrig and Red components. The shotgun is a simple Rode VideoMic NTG which is surprisingly great for an on-camera solution. I love the audio level knob on the back.
Love that dude
Me too!

Digging all the K-X content. Can't wait to get mine! Can you confirm how bad the IR pollution is when using heavy ND filters?
Thanks much Fred! Sorry, I haven’t noticed any IR pollution in these tests. I can try and do another test with denser ND and I have some Tokina IRNDs I can compare against.
